VHA APRN Scope of Practice Modernization Under Attack
Currently there is a Dear Colleague letter being circulated by Reps. Michael Grimm (R-NY) and Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) raising concerns regarding the Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) guidelines to modernize its Nursing Handbook.  The VHA has proposed to modernize the handbook by allowing advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to be recognized as Full Practice Providers within the VHA system throughout the country.  The letter from Representatives Grimm and Kirkpatrick opposes this proposal and raises concerns regarding the care APRNs provide when practicing to the full extent of their education and training.  We urge each and every member to contact your Representative TODAY, and ask that they refrain from signing the Dear Colleague letter being circulated by Reps. Michael Grimm (R-NY) and Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ).
