The Philanthrop Committee (Robert Dudley and I) is so pleased to announce the award of three grants for 2014. The grants have been awarded to:
Parkland Hospital Internal Medicine Clinic, for the purchase of insulated medication transport bags. These bags will permit clinic patients to carry thier medications to their appointments in a safe manner. We all know the value of being able to see clients' medications and counsel as needed. This grant was written by our Ms. Sara Wick, Geriatric Nurse Practitioner who cares for clients in this clinic.
Parkland Senior House Calls Program, for the purpose of implementing a falls prevention program by suppling such tangibles as bathroom bars, tub mats etc. This grant was written by LaTrica Hicks for director (our own) Jolly Thomas and will serve frail elderly clients over 65 years of age.
Kinwest Medical Clinic, which serves the unisured in Irving. This grant will supplement general operating expenses, and was written by Ms. Carmen Hoton, who volunteers in this clinic on a regular basis.
You, as members of NTNP share in the good that these clinics do through your membership and support of NTNP.
Ms. Sara Wick responded to our notie of grant award to her clinic in the following way:
Fabulous. This is going to be such a help to our patients in managing their medications. As I am sure you are aware, studies have shown that by providing patients with medication education as well as tools to assist them in managing their medications there is a significant improvement in adherence.
Thank you for realizing the benefit and awarding this grant to the patients I serve at Parkland. Looking forward to sharing my intentions with fellow NPs at an upcoming meeting.
Sara
